Recommended first preview
Create a Bottle Deposit rule with tag bottle-deposit, open Fee Preview with quantity 2, then enable the rule only after the amount and explanation look correct.
MVP setup steps
- Choose a template: Bottle Deposit, Recycling Fee, Product Fee, Tariff, POS, or COD.
- Set a customer-facing label that buyers can understand.
- Choose a clear scope: product tag, collection, product, cart, or POS location.
- Run Fee Preview before enabling so you can see matched rules, skipped rules, and buyer-facing fee amounts.
- For checkout/POS execution, open Settings, provision the fee product, then sync active rules to Shopify.
- Review Orders & Fees and export Reports for accounting.
FAQ
Does FeeLayer provide legal advice? No. Merchants must confirm local surcharge, deposit, and tax rules.
Can I add optional charges automatically? No. Shopify requires optional charges to be clearly shown and accepted by the buyer before being added.
How do I make fees appear in checkout? Deploy the Shopify extensions, use product/variant/cart-scope active rules, then click Sync active rules to Shopify in Settings.
Why use reports? Reports help reconcile deposits, recycling fees, POS fees, and tariff surcharges by rule and channel.
